Der Yamato Jr. ist ein wahrer Zauberer unter den Topwaterbaits. OSP bezeichnet ihn als „Surface Multi Action Bait“, da er über zwei komplett unterschiedliche Laufverhalten verfügt. Wird der Yamato Jr. an seiner unteren Öse eingehängt, läuft er an der Oberfläche und erzeugt eine Ähnliche Aktion wie ein Popper. An der unteren Öse eingehängt, läuft er knapp unterhalb der Wasseroberfläche im Walk-The-Dog-Stil. Somit vereint der Yamato Jr. die Eigenschaften eines Swimbaits, eines Poppers und eines Pencilbaits.
